Modals of Ability!!!

When we talk about ability, we mean two things.

First, we mean general ability. This is something that once you have learned you can do any time you want, like being able to read or swim or speak a language, for example.

The other kind of ability is specific ability. This means something that you can or can't do in one particular situation. For example, being able to lift something heavy, or find somewhere you are looking for.

Present:

Can / can't (for both general and specific ability)

• I can play the piano.
• She can speak English.
• He can't drive – he's too tired.
• We can't come now.

Past:

Could / couldn't (for general ability)

• I could read when I was four.
• She could speak French when she was a child, but now she has forgotten it.
• He couldn't dance at all until he took lessons.
• My grandfather couldn't swim.

Was able to / couldn't (for specific ability)

• When the computer crashed yesterday, I was able to fix it.(not 'I could fix it')
• She was able to pass the exam, even though she hadn't studied much.(not 'she could pass')
• He called us because he couldn't find the house.
• I couldn't open the window.

Could + have + past participle (an ability someone had in the past, but didn't use)

• I could have played the piano well but I didn't practice enough.
• We could have come earlier.
• She could have studied law, but she preferred to become a secretary.

Future:

Will / won't be able to (general ability)

• At the end of the course, you will be able to make your own website.
• He won't be able to speak Japanese in a week! It will take months.

Can / can't (specific ability)

• I can help you tomorrow
• I can't come to the party

Reinforcement for the workbook!!!

Here is the reinforcement for the workbook. You will have to repeat each irregular verb 5 times. Yes, 5 for the simple form, 5 for the past, and 5 for the past participle and don’t forget that it must be in your notebook (hand written only). You will also have to do the complete correction of pg. 32 ex. 1, 4/ pg. 33 ex. 4/ pg. 34 ex. 1 and 2. All the corrections have to be in your notebook with page number and exercise, and all the directions for each one.

All the senior students that have to do the reinforcement and the student that will like to do it to get a better grade; you have to hand it in until Friday the 22nd of November. After this day, I will not collect the reinforcement.

Mi nombre es Christian De La Torre profesor de 3ro BGU Intermedio. La presente tiene por motivo informarles cómo se van a llevar las clases de Inglés para este año lectivo.

Los alumnos de 3ro BGU tienen un blog en el cual se les informa con tiempo de las actividades de nuestras clases. Si no entendieron algo en clase también están publicadas las actividades que se realizaron en clase.  Ustedes están en el derecho de revisar este blog si ustedes desean, para que verifiquen que  se tiene publicado en este blog.

Sobre el libro de Mockingjay, los alumnos tienen que leer un capitulo por semana y presentar como mínimo 20 palabras y su definición en Inglés para el día de la prueba, que es cada semana.

En el aula nosotros tenemos un calendario en donde se anota todos los deberes, pruebas y news reports, los cuales se anotan con tiempo.

Los news reports se les informa con tiempo para que los alumnos se preparen bien. Ellos tienen que hacer un resumen de la noticia en el cuaderno el cual tiene 3 puntos y la parte oral tiene 7 puntos, y los dos sumados es la nota sobre 10.

Mis días de atención a Padres de Familia son los jueves de 7:40 a 8:20.

El colegio también pone a su disposición el club de Inglés que está a cargo de Hernán Piedra.
